Death in absentia
( video that covers death in absentia):
When one's whereabouts are unknown for so long that one is declared legally dead.
There have been cases where this has occurred and one returns to find their life irreparably changed.
Man with severe amnesia that, for years, forgot who he was. His location was known yet he was considered "missing".
(conversely, see entry " Death in absentia")
List of fugitives from justice who disappeared
( great analysis of D.B. Cooper):
1971 Unidentified (presumably-) American air-pirate that collected a ransom of
USD$200,000 (in 2022 worth 1.5 million),
parachuted out of the plane during a rainy night into a forest within Washington state,
and has never been seen nor assuredly identified since.
The only unsolved case of air piracy in commercial aviation history.
